LOCAL RESTAURANTS AND LOCAL CHARITY SET TO LAUNCH BIG POUTINE FEST THIS WEEK
Halifax & Kentville – February 7, 2022
The COVID pandemic has been extremely challenging for local restaurants. At the same time, charities are feeling the pinch as traditional fundraising events have been nearly eliminated.
Enter Big Poutine Fest! In an effort to introduce a new fundraising initiative and with the idea of helping support local business, Big Brothers Big Sisters agencies in the Annapolis Valley and Greater Halifax are working together on a “cheesy” fundraiser. Big Poutine Fest is 11 days of restaurants serving up a specially created, delicious poutine dish, with a donation to the local Big Brothers Big Sisters organization for each one sold. From February 10th to the 20th, people can try an array of poutines, from traditional to fancy, at over 70 restaurants between the Annapolis Valley and Greater Halifax. Restaurants are offering both dine in and take out options, and the mouth-watering descriptions of the poutines on offer can be found on the website: http://BigPoutineFest.ca
The donations generated from poutine sales will stay in the local community to support important mentoring programs for youth facing adversity. It’s a win-win-win initiative, where you get to have a delicious meal, support a local restaurant and help a local charity.
Rob Graves, a former Little Brother in the program, is a local restauranteur and Big Brothers Big Sisters leadership volunteer. He encourages people to participate at a time when community support is essential. “I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization for the better part of the last 30 years. I can tell you, the profound impact this organization has had on my life is an experience I won’t soon forget. Having the opportunity to get a 360 view of youth mentorship in our province and the amazing ripple effect it has across our communities is exactly why I’m asking you to join us in our latest initiative – Big Poutine Fest.”
