Your Journey to Becoming a Volunteer

Volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters is a rewarding experience that can be flexible to fit your lifestyle. We take great care in the matching process and provide professional support throughout your mentoring journey.

Here's what you can generally expect during the enrolment process:

• Attend a Big Information & Orientation Session.
• Sign the required consent forms.
• Complete your online volunteer profile, including four references.
• Submit a Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Abuse Registry Search.
• Participate in a one-on-one interview with a Big Brothers Big Sisters staff member.
• Receive notification regarding your application.
• If accepted, sign a Volunteer Confidentiality Agreement.

Finding the Right Match

Once you've been approved as a volunteer, our Match Support team carefully considers the needs, interests, personalities, and preferences of both volunteers and young people.

• Discussing a potential match with you and, depending on the program, the child or youth and their parent or guardian.
• Arranging an introductory meeting with the child or youth, their parent or guardian, and your Match Support staff.

If everyone agrees the match is a good fit, your mentoring journey begins! Your Match Support staff will stay in regular contact throughout the match, providing guidance, encouragement, and ongoing support.
