CRITERIA

HOW IT WORKS

When applying for our programs, a Little must be at least 7 years old.

An Enrollment Coordinator will work with you and your child to review your situation and determine how a mentor would be of benefit. Factors that would be considered regarding your child’s needs include:

  • Parent or guardian support
  • Adult involvement other than the parent(s) or guardian(s)
  • Peer relationships
  • School performance
  • Involvement in community activity
  • Living environment
  • Ability to form and maintain a healthy, safe relationship
  • Ability to perform self-care

If your child meets the above criteria, please complete the Child Inquiry Form as a first step in enrolling in our programs.

Important Update: Little Enrolment Temporarily on Hold

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Halifax is currently experiencing a very high volume of applications from young people hoping to be matched with a Big. To ensure we can give every applicant the care, attention, and support they deserve, we have temporarily paused new Little enrolments.

During this pause, we are also taking the opportunity to update and improve our enrolment process, including the introduction of a fully digital application experience to make things simpler and more accessible for families and caregivers.

Little enrolment will reopen in the new year.
When the process resumes, updated information and application links will be posted here on our website.

If you have questions in the meantime, please reach out.

Thank you for your understanding and for supporting mentoring across Greater Halifax.
